Where was the last place you played a sports game?  It might have been some ordinary school such as Poly Prep, Packer, or Brooklyn Friends.  But if you are on the boys Varsity Basketball team, it was the Barclays Center.  Yes, you’ve read correctly.  The court that has hosted star basketball players like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Brooklyn’s own Deron Williams also held Berkeley Carroll’s team on Tuesday, November 25th.  BC’s own walked onto the court, ready to take on the Nets.  This year, the team is working hard with three new starters and a fourth starter in a new position.  The boys came out with a strong 41-31 win.

Watching a game at the Barclays Center was unlike any other sports event in Berkeley Carroll history.  The arena can seat thousands, and over 300 from the BC community came out to support the team.  Jimmy Council, a junior with a total of twelve points said, “Playing at the Barclays Center was definitely a great game.  It was actually my first time in the stadium so having the opportunity to play on the court was really amazing.  What made it great as well was the amount of support we got from the BC community.  A lot of people showed up to watch us play and it was truly an amazing experience.”  The boys showed their excitement by working extremely hard non-stop.  Although it could have been nerve-racking to play in such a big setting, they performed confidently the whole way through.  Captains Eugene Clark and Danny McCormack were happy to get their team started this season: “I think the game went well.  We were able to get all players in.  Everyone was very excited to be playing at Barclays, and overall the team played very well and as a unit.”

Additionally, freshmen Ismael Massoud and Lukas Yurasits had a combined nine points and seven assists.  Head coach Carmine Giovino noted that “everyone got in the game, which helped the team work together with new people.”  With a great win on their backs, they will be going into the season with tenacity.  This winter season, be sure to come out and see the boys in action.  You won’t want to miss out!
