The Last Time
It’s a strange feeling knowing you’ll never sit in a classroom at Berkeley Carroll and be a student in the same way ever again. This is our last time being high school students, and a lot of the time, we take for granted the little things that we do throughout the day. It is important to realize that there will be a last time for everything in high school, but we seniors have a whole lot of new things to look forward to in the years to come. Since we don’t yet know what these new things will be, here is a list of “last things” you should take a moment to think about as they happen:
- The last time you walk through the Lincoln Place doors
- The last time you sit outside the atrium in the morning waiting for class to start
- The last time you try to figure out which staircase will get you to the basement most efficiently and always make the wrong choice, ending up on the opposite end of the school
- The last time you say “good morning” to each of your teachers
- The last time you complain about middle schoolers in the hallways
- The last time you scramble into class on the 4th floor breathing like you just ran a marathon
- The last time you eat a muffin at 10:10
- The last time you eat your chicken with a spoon because the cafeteria ran out of forks 10 minutes into lunch
- The last time you ask your friends “how’s the bread?”
- The last time you thank the kitchen staff after you finish your meal
- The last time you wonder who thought it was a good idea to put the music rooms right next to the silent atrium
- The last time you walk to Sterling Place in the rain
- The last time you come to class 5 minutes late because you had to walk all the way from Sterling Place
- The last time you play a game at the Athletic Center
- The last time you ride a yellow school bus with your team to an away game
- The last time you talk too loudly in the library and now the librarians know everything about your life
- The last time you spend most of your free period debating whether to do work or watch Netflix
- The last time you run out to get coffee between classes even though there is definitely not enough time to do so
- The last time you sit at morning meeting on Tuesday
- The last time you close your locker
- The last time you walk away from high school
