Disclaimer: The BCS soccer team often referred to me as “Black Adam” due to my absolute admiration of Dwayne Johnson’s performance as ‘Black Adam,’ a supervillain, in Black Adam, an action fantasy movie by DC.
It was a wild season for BC’s Boys Varsity soccer team! While we had a tough record of 2 wins, 1 tie, and 6 losses, everyone worked together and grew as a team. Under the guidance of Coaches Mashud and Sekou, everyone learned to play together as a team through sportsmanship and determination. At our rainy season opener against the Brooklyn Friends School, we scored six goals during the first half and let in one goal. Lucien A. ‘24 (#9), our striker scored the first goal and started the momentum for us to score another 5 scored by Lucien A, Graham M. ‘23, Oliver A. ‘24, and a wicked header from Jack S. ‘23. The second half rained out yet we had secured our victory, 6-1. All BC’s players worked together to keep possession, pass well, and create set pieces. This was one of our first times playing together with the full roster and it kicked off our season with an energetic start.
Later in the season, our victory against Staten Island Academy, was a “big day in the office for the lions” as the BC Boys Varsity Soccer Instagram put it. During this match, the whole team had to battle hard, play as a team, and persevere until the very end. It was a close game and both teams were neck in neck. Near the end of the game, both teams were tied 3-3 and tensions were high. In the 86th minute, I scored a last minute winner, ending the match in a 4-3 victory. (Goals: Lucien A. ‘24, Oliver A. ‘24, Graham M. ‘23, and Jake S. ‘24)
Q&A:
Do you have any favorite moments from the season?
Lucien A. ‘24 (Striker): In our game against Riverdale, we were down 0-3 at the half, and tied it up to 3-3 by the end. It was an electrifying game and I was very proud of that.
Lee R. ‘24 (Left Back): My favorite moment was when Jake “Black Adam” Sklar scored a last minute winner against SIA (Staten Island Academy).
Do you have any hopes for next season?
Lee: We need to win every game next year.
Overall, it was a fun season. We had some hard games but the team stayed strong, played hard despite the odds, and I had great fun with you guys… until next year.
